Unfranked Stamps is a mass of used postage stamps still stuck on paper and sold to stamp collectors by weight. Some older collectors reading this page may remember a BBC Blue Peter Appeal for used stamps which fueled the kiloware industry for a long time!

On a Friday in October there are few things better for a philatelist than sorting through a pile of old used postage stamps. The unfranked stamps you buy should appear to be a completely unsorted mixture of postally used stamps which are still stuck to clipped envelope paper. Sometimes mixtures of stamps off paper are offered for sale as unfranked stamps but, most collectors would probably agree, this is not the correct use of the term as off paper stamps are more often sold by the number of stamps rather than in kilos!.

Advice on Soaking Stamps Off Unfranked Stamps

If you are new to kiloware sorting then the best advice is, once you find a charity source or kiloware dealer that supplies genuinely unpicked unfranked stamps it is almost certainly worth sticking with them again for future purchases.

Reusing Unfranked stamps
If these systems don't work and unfranked stamps get through, then for me they're fair game. Reusing one stamp a week isn't quite the same as setting up a counterfeit business in the garage, but I suspect that there are plenty of people who would equate the two.

What are "unfranked" stamps and are they legal to use in ...
Best Answer: Unfranked means uncancelled. Royal Mail missed that particular parcel or envelope with the ink cancellation, and so it arrived at the recipient with the stamps "like new". Ive had a letter with an unfranked stamp more than once and yes ive been tempted to reuse it, however, the thing that has stopped me is the thought that each stamp i buy its going towards paying someones wages.
